SSC conducts this exam in two stages; Preliminary exam and after qualifying this, applicants need to go through a skill test. Pre-exam comprises of 3 sections i.e., Reasoning, English Comprehension and General awareness. The questions will be classified as per the table given below:

Since SSC Stenographer exam is conducted for recruitment process for the candidates who have completed intermediate exam. Hence, syllabus for section is upto 10th level. It is also similar to the major recruitment exams conducted at national and state level. The questions will be asked from the syllabus mentioned in notification

There is no limit as such for the syllabus of General awareness but one can prepare for this section by going through the topics and understanding the pattern of questions asked in previous years exams.

After qualifying the Preliminary examination, candidates need to go through skill test to get selected for the post. The skill test/stenography test will be organized at various sub-regional offices or at some other centers.
Candidates who qualifies the preliminary exam and eligible for the skill test, will be given one dictation for the time period of 10 minutes in Hindi as well as English with minimum speed of 100 words per minute for the stenographer grade C posts while for Grade D the minimum speed would be 80 words per minute.
